Project X Zone and Animal Crossing: New Leaf has just arrived.

Well, to be more technical, it arrived yesterday, but I didn't make a post about it yesterday cuz of a blackout that occurred as soon as I decided to make a post.

Anyways, I was really happy that the copy of Project X Zone (PXZ) that I got was the limited edition one, even though the amount I paid was for the normal copy of PXZ.

This is mostly because the person I'm buying the two games from wasn't really sure which version of PXZ he was gonna receive from his suppliers. And when it arrived to him, he may have gotten both the limited edition one and the normal PXZ copy. Also, by checking his delivery spreadsheet, I think he gave the limited edition copies to those who paid earlier, and I was one of them.

Pretty awesome. I mean, I wasn't expecting a limited edition copy, but since I paid earlier, I got one as a reward. The limited edition copy has a small artbook, which is made really simple as there's no concept art and whatnot (the characters in PXZ are already well established in their respective video game series except for two characters who were original characters), but it's okay. It also comes with a mini poster, which looks pretty cool, and the soundtrack, which I heard has a limited number of songs compared to the Japanese version of the soundtrack CD. The tracks are alright, but I wish that some of the songs were longer, as in the tracks should be repeated once like how most game soundtrack works (having a game track being too short makes it hard to get that song stuck in your head).

Gameplay wise, I don't think I need much explanation since I've already made a rough explanation on how the game works in another post. One thing I wanna note is how awesome the intro is. I know that the intro had a different music for the US version compared to the Japanese version, but the thing to note here is that the animation is done by the same guy who did the Gurren Lagann anime, which is an epic, over the top awesome anime.

Animal Crossing is pretty fun too. I went into the game not knowing that the way I answered the questions at the very beginning will affect my eye colour (and eye type), as well as my clothing, and I thought the game was psychic by giving me orange eyes and a shirt with a fire pattern since my name is Sunny (as in the sun). How coincidental.

Currently, I have a 26% approval ratings, and I am almost done settling the downpayment for the house. I think I'll decide to upgrade my house after paying the downpayment and try to get that 100% approval ratings instead.

This game is pretty addictive and very enjoyable. I can see why a game like this that seems to be marketed at kids being played by people 20 years old and above. It's fun, that's all I can say.

Anyways, gonna continue my PXZ later.

Holiday plans

Now that my exams are over, it's pretty obvious that I'm having a semester break before the next semester commences. This holiday is just a month long, but I think I'll still be able to do some stuff with it, so here's the list of things I'm gonna spend my time enjoying during the semester break.

1. Play Video Games (Obviously)
I have my 3DS, and with Project X Zone and Animal Crossing on the way, I'll be able to spend a lot of time playing games at home (or at least spend a ton of time playing just these two games). I also have Fire Emblem save files that I occasionally check on for the Barrack conversations, and a Hard-Classic file that
I've yet to complete. I also have Resident Evil: Revelations uncompleted, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D where I'm trying to get the stealth camo by shooting all 64 Yoshis.

2. Watch EVO 2013
I'm a huge fan of fighting games (the first video game I've ever played as far as I remembered is Virtua Fighter 2, which is a fighting game). EVO is gonna be awesome this year, with games like Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Injustice: Gods Among Us and Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 as some of the main games for this year.

The biggest shocker (and an awesome one too) for this EVO is that there's also gonna be Super Smash Bros. Melee for their main games (as voted by the internet), which is pretty amazing since it's a 10 year old game with a huge following (like MvC 2), and its widely debated on whether it's a fighting game or not seeing how unconventional it is to a normal fighting game. Nonetheless, Melee is quite technical and is proven to be able to generate some pretty clutch and exciting moments, so I definitely look forward to that.

I find it funny how Tekken Tag Tournament 2, a game released last year, isn't getting enough entrants to reward it as a main game this year. I mean I could understand if Mortal Kombat wasn't on the list since it's been out for a long time, and Persona 4 Arena is sort of a niche fighting game itself. I thought that Tekken would at least have a huge and strong community or something. Maybe I was wrong.

I'll be watching it via livesteam, and due to the time difference, I may or may not watch everything that's happening (cuz I'll have to be a night owl for the whole weekend if I want to do so). My biggest hopes for EVO is to see either Daigo Umehara (the Legendary Street Fighter Champion), Xian (the South East Asian hopeful), or Gamerbee (the Taiwanese hero) take the Super Street Fighter IV crown. Also, hoping to see some new tech being discovered during UMVC3 for some awesome moments.

3. Buy more games.
Mostly because I'll have some spare time and can go around ordering games to arrive at my doorstep. Trying not to overspend though.

4. Catch up on tv shows.
I have to admit. The past semester was a pretty hectic one for me. And I hardly watched tv even though there were some shows I really wanted to watch. So I guess now would be a good time to catch up on them.

I guess that's quite enough to keep me busy for a month. And then the next semester commences and the studying continues.

Things I've learnt from playing the Project X Zone demo

I was gonna make a delayed post on my thoughts of E3 2013, but I just don't feel like it. So, my summarized thoughts on E3 are:
1. Microsoft lost.
2. Sony won by burning the crap out of Microsoft (plus, dat price tag) despite sneaking in the 5$ a month PS+ membership thing to play multiplayer online.
3. And Nintendo got second. Pokemon was awesome (expected a new type there), and Smash Bros. is awesome as hell (MEGA MAN!!!!!!).

Now back to the main topic of this post.

Project X Zone is a game that was on my wish list for quite a while and is released in the US on the 25th June (which is tomorrow as of this post). Being a turn-based strategy game like Fire Emblem that featured characters from Namco Bandai, Sega, and most importantly Capcom, it looks really fun.

One of my main worry is how the battles may get tedious since you'll be fighting a lot of enemies (and some really powerful ones too), and unlike Fire Emblem, your battle phase animation cannot be skipped (which I'll get to it later). However, trying the demo out made me think otherwise, and this may be a great game.

The current demo out on the eshop is Demo A (there will be a Demo B out sometime around the release of PXZ). After using up all the tries on this demo (which there are only 5 of them), I was able to figure out some stuff about it. Note, what is mentioned here may or may not be true since this is what I've figured out from the game (my personal experience, and not from any guidebooks).

1. Each battle sequence is unique.
When you enter a battle, you press the 'A' button to attack. Using the directional buttons will give you different attacks (there's a list of available moves for your character). Also, you could call out your solo unit (which is a single character unlike your main unit, which are paired up characters like Ryu and Ken of Street Fighter) and even call out a supporting unit (which is a paired up unit nearby you) to extend your combos. The point of this combos is to build up your XP bar, which acts like mana or MP (and I'll get to that later). Also, doing combos on characters with shield is extremely important as dropping the combo enables them to reactivate their shield, and you need another attack to break that barrier.
In addition to performing combos, if you're able to perform each possible move that your character has (that isn't the super move), you're entitled for an additional attack to extend the combo.
The amount of damage you deal to the opponent depends on timing. If you timed your characters attack properly (as well as the assists), your attacks will hit the opponent more and you'll inflict more damage to them.

2. XP are important.
As mentioned earlier, extending your combos build up your XP bar. XP can be used for a few things.
Firstly, when being attacked by an enemy, you can use your XP to counter the opponent, defend the attack and receive less damage, or do a full defend and nullify the damage received.
You can also use XP to perform certain skills. These skills range from healing yourself, to increasing the range of your attack, or even keep the juggling height of your opponent constant for certain combo setups.
Also, with 100XP, you can use it to perform a very damaging super move on the enemy.

3. Items.
There's a few items I noticed during the demo. There's items that heals your HP, and some that recovers some XP, and lastly items that recovers status conditions. I also notice that by defeating the boss in the demo, I received something that I think is an equip item. This means that you can equip items to characters to give them better stats or maybe even additional effects to complement the skills they already have.

I guess that's about everything I learnt from the demo (from what I've remembered on the top of my head). Note that there's no need for button mashing during combat, just a perfectly timed button press will do.

I hope this game is gonna be awesome. I can't wait to use my favourite Capcom characters as well as other characters from other fighting games.

Watched Man of Steel

Here's the thing about me and watching movies,

Like watching anime, I am rather picky with what movie I plan to watch. But unlike anime, the exception to that rule is that if my friends invited me to watch a movie (even though I have no plans to watch it, and the movie doesn't give me a bad impression like you know, Twilight) I would join them without a second thought unless that movie they plan to watch is one that I plan to watch with my best friend.

I was supposed to watch a movie with my uni mates yesterday after my final paper, and it was gonna be Monster University. However, we weren't able to find any good seating arrangement for the timeslot that we want to watch, and that we had a tight schedule where we had dinner at a steamboat restaurant (for those who don't know, steamboat does not refer to the boat that runs on steam, it's a chinese hotpot restaurant where you put stuff in a metal pot filled with stock in the middle of the table) but that's not the point.

The point is, while I was gonna make a post on watching two movies, it ended up being me watching one movie - which was Man of Steel with my best friend today.

Man of Steel, I would say is an alright superhero movie. While not as good as the Dark Knight saga, it is good in its own rights. I was wondering how they were gonna two Clark's childhood/teenage life thing since he was.......

Oh ya, forgot to mention, there's gonna be spoilers below this sentence, so unless you've watched the movie and don't mind being spoiled, then continue reading.

Where was I again? Oh right, yeah, about his childhood and teenage life story since he was sent to Earth as a baby. In the end they went with the flashback route, and it was okay with me. I enjoyed it, since it only told us the main events of his past like being picked on but refusing to fight back, rescuing a busload of people from drowning, and letting his adopted dad die from a hurricane (instead of a heart attack like in the comics).

I was also rather curious on how Superman is gonna take down General Zod and each member of his army (Zod included) is as strong as Superman. So they went with the black hole banishing everyone out route. It seems like this is a Deus Ex Machina, but I think they had to do it, considering the massive scale of damage done by the army (this show has a very high body count in my opinion, just look at the scale of destruction done).

I do have one minor nitpick. Considering how much damage has been done to Metropolis. I would assume that it would take a loooooooooong time for it to rebuilt itself. But they way the epilogue panned out it's as if Metropolis just became back to normal in less than a year or two. But hey, comic book logic FTW?

Final Man of Steel related thoughts: I think I saw tons of reference to the movie 300 (since the director of 300 directed this movie) like the 'This is Madness' quote, and how Clark Kent looked like a Spartan before shaving and having his abs showing. Also, Lexcorp tanker, awesome. Did I mentioned Zod is now a downloadable character in Injustice: Gods Among Us, a DC universe fighting game? Also pretty cool to tie in with the movie (just like the how there were many Avengers character in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 to tie in with the Avengers movie),

Short after exam update

Yeah, I know I've not been posting much, even though I do have a lot to say about the stuff that's been happening for the past few weeks. This post is just here to show that I am indeed alive after my last paper of the day, and that I'm really tired to make the post now.

So yeah.....

Maybe tomorrow, when I regained some of my energy, and after I finish watching Man of Steel.

Thursday 6 June 2013

My Fire Emblem: Awakening Streetpass team is finally completed!

And the final member of my team is.....

Brady! Son of Henry and Maribelle, he's the only guy in my team who will utilize the Miracle Counter strategy, a tactic - if activated will instantly kill the opponent who activated Lethality with 1 HP remaining.

His skills other than that are Vengeance, Limit Breaker, and Renewal. Vengeance will be useful for when receiving a lot of damage, being able to dish out that much damage in return. And Renewal is for self-healing, so that he can perform Miracle Counter once more if lucky. Also, he's equipped with forged Aversa's Night for healing.

So, my Streetpass Team is completed. My team includes the Male Avatar, Severa, Morgan, Lucina, Cynthia, Inigo, Owain, Nah, Brady, and Langley (Female Avatar Rallybot).

And just in time too. Despite having exams, I'll be taking a short break on Saturday, going to some place that's having a small games/anime convention. I'll be Streetpassing, and sending my team to other people, to see how they fare against mine.

Tuesday 4 June 2013

Fire Emblem Streetpass Team Update, as well as some 3DS Games Update!

Yeah, I know my exams are coming, but you must understand, there's no way I could study for one whole day without getting bored. So I did play some Fire Emblem, but not that much though, since there's not much for me to do in the game at the moment.

But I still did something. I've maxed out the stats of 3 more members of my final Streetpass Team. Yes, 3 more people. The only reason why I'm putting them in an update now it's because the 3 people are the Family of Heroes.

Yeah, it's my Male Avatar, his wife Severa, and their daughter Morgan, all of them are in the Hero class (Note: All of them have the skills Limit Breaker, Sol, and Counter). My Avatar has the Boots equipped to give him +2 Movement, and his remaining skills are Luna and Aegis. Severa has Vantage and Vengeance, while Morgan has Astra and Lethality.

I wanted my Male Avatar to have some sort of pseudo-Aether skill, so he has Sol and Luna. Aegis is there to protect from magic. Severa can use the Vantage Vengeance combo when in a pinch, and Morgan, having the highest skill among all of them, goes for all activation skills, so there will never be a turn where Morgan can't activate anything.

So now I need one more member and my Streetpass team will finally be completed, and I know just the person for my team.

Also, I've decided to get Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Yeah, surprise surprise. It looks interesting, really, even with the cutesy style and all. Oh, and the game will arrive the same time with Project X Zone since I ordered it from the same person. And they'll both arrive after my exams (yay!), so no further distractions by a new game for me.

That's all I guess.
