Quick little update

So a few days ago I had a thought.

Of all the 3DS games that I currently own (only 6), the only game that I have not beaten (except for Animal Crossing, since you can't beat it) is Resident Evil: Revelations. Worst still, I felt that I have lost interest in the game for quite a while when compared to the other game that I bought along with this game (which is Metal Gear Solid).

At that moment, I have decided that I don't plan to keep Resident Evil: Revelations in my collection of games and plan to sell it. But I had one thing to do before I sell the game, and that is to beat it first.

And I did.

Not as scary as I expected (except for the eerie sound that plays when you first fight Rachel). Or maybe it was just me laughing or smiling whenever a zombie shows up, I dunno, it's a natural reaction I have when seeing something that I genuinely believe is not real but is considered scary to some. Or maybe the tone wasn't as scary as previous RE games (of which I have not tried yet).

Anyways, I've completed it, so I plan to sell it, or trade it with another game. Feel like trading it with another good game that I missed out that I may plan to try one day, but not on my top priority list. Something like Luigi's Mansion or Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Oh, and plan to buy a second hand copy of Kingdom Hears: Dream Drop Distance and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D from a guy. Hopefully Ocarina of Time will pique my interest in getting that new Legend of Zelda game for the 3DS (Link Between Worlds).

A retrospect and thoughts over the events of my previous semester in university.

I have noticed that while this blog started as a side project that I plan on doing while beginning my life in Monash University Sunway Campus, I have noticed that there is a severe lack of posts relating on my life in university.

Well, I thought that my life in university is usually pretty boring, to be honest, I am a Science student after all, and I spent most of my time studying or doing assignments if I'm not playing my 3DS. But I think a retrospective post of the events of my previous semester sounds like a great way to summarise everything that has happened in the past 4 months.

Anyways, I'll keep it really short and as simple as possible.

So to me, the whole semester was all about finding the balance between playing my 3DS and studying (since I got my 3DS about a month before the commencement of the semester). I've been playing my 3DS a lot since I got it and I was wondering how will I be able to balance out my studying and playing time when I start studying again.

Unfortunately, what I felt was an extremely rough start that only started to get better during the last few weeks of studying. Really. I think the fact that I was playing my 3DS a lot, combined with the 4 month summer break spent on not studying made me extremely rusty (or that's what I thought).

Towards the middle of the semester, I bought two new games - RE:Revelations, and MGS3D. The good news was those games weren't as addictive as Fire Emblem, so I didn't spent additional time playing the two games (by then, I had already cut my gaming time by a lot).

By the end of the studying week (and the weeks before exams), my thoughts on the subjects were:
Chemistry - Shit (Horrid lab report marks, and tutorial classes that sucked for me)
Psychology - Great (While it has super annoying assignments, I did pretty well overall)
Biology - Normal (Had some ups and downs, but it was pretty balanced)
Food Science - Between Normal and Shit (Assignment marks were just okay, and lab marks were below average in my opinion).

So, it pre-exams, I felt everything was just average for me. So I try my best to read up on as much as I can. And then it was exams. And after going through all the papers, my thoughts were:
Chemistry - Shit (No time to finish everything, some answers left blank)
Psychology - Between Normal and Shit (It was a tough multiple choice paper)
Biology - Between Normal and Shit (Also, a tough multiple choice paper)
Food Science - Between Normal and Good (Easier than I anticipated)

By the end of the exams, while I was glad everything was over, I was also a bit disappointed by my overall performance so far for the semester.  I mean, I kinda anticipated that my studies might be affected by me having a 3DS, but I didn't thought it would be this bad. Still, I had my hopes up that I would not fail anything for this semester.

And then last Monday came along. To my relief, I passed everything, having 3 Distinctions and 1 Credit. Not too bad at first, since I got 1 HD, 2 Ds and 1 C last semester, but when I look at the marks I got for the grades it was kinda bad for me.  The marks for the grades were 0-3 marks away from the borderline (as in 70 is the borderline for Distinction, and the marks for my Distinctions range between 70-73 if I remember correctly).

In short, the good news is that I didn't fail anything, and that my grades were better than I thought it was. The bad is that I'm not extremely satisfied with the marks I got from those grades.

Anyways, I hope that the last semester has taught me how to balance my gaming and studying time. As my holiday comes to an end next week, I have to plan how to make sure I get the most out of gaming and studying, hoping to get through to the next semester without any problems.

Streetpass gathering / Animal Crossing post.

So, last Saturday, I attended my 2nd Streetpass meeting with the Nintendo Streetpass Community of Malaysia, which was probably the reason why I didn't watch the Super Street Fighter IV pools, Quarters and Semi finals of EVO.

During the whole time when both my Animal Crossing and Project X Zone arrived, I was very heavily focused on completing PxZ, and I completed it last Wednesday, so I could continue my AC. It was then when I learnt how to effectively hunt for beetles.

I calculated that assuming I make 8,000 Bells on average per beetle, I will be able to net 384,000 Bells at Re-Tail with a full box of beetles since I have Bell Bloom Ordinance. I was only doing so so that I could upgrade my house as fast as I can to show my fellow Streetpassers my progress (since I was already quite slow to begin with).

So I went for the gathering, and had an enjoyable time. Got some Fire Emblem Streetpass tags, but I guess no one is as hardcore at FE as me over there since I just wreck their teams. Played some Mario Kart 7 too. Did pretty average on the game. I never really enjoyed playing the Mario Kart game compared to my favourite kart-racer of all time which is Crash Team Racing. It's just something about the feel of racing in MK that doesn't feel right to me compared to CTR.

There was a whole group of people playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and one of them even brought his WiiU over, playing MH3U using the WiiU's Gamepad screen. I have to say, while many of the WiiU Gamepad's functionality is considered by many gamers as gimmicks, I felt that it is an awesome one, it makes the WiiU feel like it's a semi-portable console, being able to play the WiiU anywhere as long as the location has a plug point.

A while later, the Animal Crossing group arrived. I was able to get some other fruits from the other towns, and also some new clothes and items from their Super T&T (while mine is still a T&T Mart). I also got a really horrific haircut at Shampoodle the ended up not being so bad after all (which I'll get to that later).

Last Friday (which is a day before the gathering), I spent an hour trying out on the Pro-Design feature that the Able Sisters have, and I was able to make a long sleeved shirt based on the upper torso of Zero's design of the Mega Man X series (more specifically, his Mega Man X 4 design). I was pretty satisfied with the design. Only thing that could make the design perfect is if my character had long, blonde hair, which was the reason why I went and tried Shampoodle.

I didn't know the way you answered the questions has an effect on the hairstyle, and that the hairstyle that you get will be permanent until you decide to change it again. So my hairstyle is now white and as puffy as a cloud. It sucks. But in the end, I was just fine, as I went and wear another custom designed outfit I got online, which was Miles Edgeworth's outfit from the Ace Attorney series. Then I got some decent pants and shoes from their town, coupled with a Top Hat I found in another town, and I looked like some old gentleman of sorts. Not too bad, but it gets better.

One of the person in charge of the Streetpass meeting (and also the admins of the Streetpass Facebook page) is really wealthy in Animal Crossing, and he decided that we have an Animal Crossing competition to win 1 million Bells, and the Royal Crown hat, which I found out later when I got back home to be worth 1.2 million Bells.

Many of us who were still playing AC competed together in this competition, with most of them wanting the Royal Crown hat. There were eight of us competing. We went to the Island to play a game of Cicada catching (don't remember the difficulty). Since there were eight players two separate groups played the game, with the two best scoring players moving on to the final round. I was lucky enough to get 2nd place, so I went on with 3 others to the last round.

The last round was a tough one. It was the Pro-Diving contest. All the animals swam really quickly underwater that I had failed to catch some animals in my diving attempt. I even got stung by a jellyfish once, costing a lot of time. But in the end, everyone else were also having a hard time in the diving contest, and I came up on top.

Got the 1 million Bells and the Royal Crown. I was pretty happy with the results since I wasn't expecting to win. I dunno about you, but sometimes if you don't think about the competition at all, you tend to do better due to the lack of stress you'll feel when you realise that you're not doing so well.

On next day, I spent that 1 million bells buying turnips in the morning, which was sold at 97 Bells per turnip in my town. Not the best buying price, but its alright to me, since I've never bought turnips at that price before since I got the game. They were either too expensive, or I was playing PxZ.

Then today, I had some free time in the morning, and I was able to find, on the GameFAQs AC trading boards, someone's town buying turnips at 578 Bells. The post was made rather recent, so I swooped in and asked to enter their town. Sure enough, I was able to enter the town in the 3rd batch.

The only condition the town owner gave was that we had to tip him 99,000 bells whenever we go back to the train station's locker to refill our inventory with turnips. After selling all my turnips, I've made about 6 million bells. Minus the amount of tip I gave the town owner (about 500,000 bells), and the cost of buying the turnips (1 million bells), I've made a net profit of 4.5 million Bells. Not bad, in my opinion. I can fully pay off any upgrade to my house now.

Anyways, that's all for today. I'm still rather busy with my Animal Crossing at the moment.

Oh, and I passed all my units for the previous semester, meaning I could continue studying in the next semester without having to retake a unit for not meeting the requirements of the higher level units.

EVO 2013 thoughts.

So.... EVO just ended, and boy was this year's EVO so satisfying to watch.

First up was KOF XIII. While I didn't see the whole finals (due to time difference between US time and here), I was able to watch a bit of the Grand Finals cuz I was waiting for Smash Bros. Melee to start.

It was pretty awesome. The moment the bracket reset, Woo kinda lost the confidence he had, and the winner went to the American AS Reynald.

In the end I didn't watch Melee, sadly...

Then around 7 something AM there was Injustice. It was also the Grand Finals when I was watching it. Kinda funny to see the winner of Injustice getting booed by the audience for his lame play with Superman.

Then there was the two big games I was waiting for.

First up, was Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3.

Man, it was intense. Last year's EVO champ eliminated. And the 'villain' of UMVC3, Chris G, got eliminated by Justin Wong, who was trailing Chris G. Indeed, the 'Wong Factor' still exists. The best part of the match was that Justin Wong was now considered the 'hero'. Back then in MVC2, he won so much that people got tired of him winning, and so he was the 'villain' then. But here, it was very amazing to see how people are now cheering for him a lot.

The 'Wong Factor' was also in effect during the Grand Finals, when Justin Wong reset the bracket against Flocker. In the end, Flocker won. While it was pretty upsetting that Justin didn't win, the results were pretty satisfying in that:
1. Chris G and Filipino Champ didn't win (both are sort of the 'bad guys' in UMVC3).
2. Both players in the Grand Finals were pretty nice to watch, and that the it was pretty exciting itself
3. Finally a team with Zero that has won a major tournament (EVO to boot). Zero is my favourite video game character ever. While he was regarded as top tier in UMVC3, no one has won a major tournament with Zero before, until today.

And finally, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012.

This year's SSFIV finals was very exciting. We had Makoto, Ibuki, and Gen in Top 8, and they aren't regarded has high tier characters.

Daigo lost to Infiltration again, which is sad.

Haitani's Makoto and PR Balrog's Balrog is one interesting match. Fast paced, and so fun to watch. In the end Balrog won.

Then we have Xian, a Singaporean player (and one of my favourites to win EVO this year), using the difficult to use Gen and defeating two of Japan's fighting game gods to move on to Grand Finals, Sako and his Ibuki, and Tokido with his Akuma.

Then we had a PR Balrog and Infiltration rematch. PR Balrog sent Infiltration to Losers earlier, and Infiltration decide to counter-pick Balrog using.... Hakan! Despite counter-picking, it was still an entertaining match, showing the world how Hakan can handle the pressure of high level play. In the end, Infiltration's Hakan took out Balrog.

Tokido faces off with Infiltration in an Akuma mirror match. Tokido proved that he was the better Akuma in the mirror match and move on to Grand Finals for a rematch with Xian and eliminating last year's EVO champion Infiltration.

Xian dominated Tokido in the Grand Finals, winning 3-0, being the new EVO champion.

I was really happy with the results of SSFIV this EVO, while Daigo did not win, Xian did, and it was really happy to see Xian win EVO, representing Singapore and South East Asia, and this marks the first time a Gen player win EVO. Remember how saying something like 'Gen will win EVO' is something that seems impossible and would be laugh at by many? Not anymore.

This year's EVO was pretty nice to watch overall, the results were pretty satisfying.

My review on Project X Zone (super long post)

I don't usually make reviews of a game, but I feel it's a special case for this game, simply because the reviews for this game are pretty mixed. Some liked it, and some hated the game.

So what I'm gonna do here is make a review on this game based on its genre, and not based on what people expected in the game, which I'll explain later.

Anyways, my reviews contains spoilers for PxZ and may have spoilers for Fire Emblem: Awakening since I'll be doing some comparisons with each other.

Story:
I think the story is not very well done in this game. You start off the game, only to be presented by a wall of text, and that is suppose to be the back story of this game. So yeah, do not take the story of this game so seriously. But to summarise the story, multiple worlds are clashing together, and our heroes must save the day.

Playable characters, as well as boss characters come from these different worlds. Some of these characters may have even met each other before due to them appearing together in other crossover games like Namco X Capcom (a game not released outside of Japan which Project X Zone is a sequel to) and the Capcom Versus Series. Players may find it rather confusing how certain characters knew each other already, which may be a bad thing. When I was playing this game, it wasn't surprising to me that most of the Capcom characters have known each other since many of them appeared and are playable in the Versus Series.

Also, due to the fact that the multiple worlds are clashing, entering certain areas might make characters go to a different place entirely, like how entering an office entrance makes characters enter a vampire's castle. It's rather confusing at first, on why characters are able to jump to different worlds so easily, and how these worlds are drastically different from the ones before it. This is all due to the worlds clashing and making the dimensional rifts unstable (this is all story by the way, not my personal explanation).

It also kinda bugs be on how most characters are recruited into your team. It can be summed up like this:
1.Enter a new place due to dimensional rift.
2.New character appears (either early or middle of chapter) and joins you for whatever reason.
3.Complete chapter, go to an area that the characters thought they are heading to.
4. Repeat Step 1-3

Another thing that disappointed me about the story was the scene after the final boss battle. You know, for a person who was such an ass who tried to fuse all the different worlds together, and causing other characters to kill each other, you would think that upon his defeat, the characters would just kill him, or he vanished from existence right?

NOPE!

He's just like 'I was wrong, I shouldn't fuse the worlds, since you don't want it.' And then just returns to his place. Not the ending that I expected.

Characters:
Since most of the characters in this game have already appeared their respective games, do not expect to see them getting more fleshed out, which is good, I think. Their personalities are already well established from their own games, so I think it's wise to just keep it that way.

The best part about this game are the interactions between the characters from different series. This can be seen if you pair certain units together, and they'll have their own unique Intro and Outro quote. It gave a really nice touch to the game.

Also, I'm pretty sure the characters are also the reason people got the game. Fans of Megaman X and Zero are really happy to see them in new game (a crossover game to boot, but not from Capcom, lol) and have wanted to play as them. Too bad they're the last characters to recruit, only obtained almost mid-game, but they're worth the wait.

It is also a plus if you know most of the characters here, since they occasionally make references to other games too.

One thing I really didn't like was after the chapter where you fought in the cruise ship for the second time (Chapter 33). Upon completing that chapter, the characters decided that the best thing to do while waiting for the cruise to land was to take a break (they're in a freaking cruise after all). So many of the characters did mention what they were gonna do on the cruise and who will be joining them doing said activity. It's rather sad that the conversations don't go any further than this as after these conversations ended, you end up seeing the menu for your unit settings, while the characters are enjoying their cruise and having boatloads of conversation while doing these activities in the cruise that could be awesome material for this game.

Oh, and you gotta love how Frank West takes a pic on every hot woman in this game. Really epic stuff.

Gameplay:
This game plays like any other SRPG, but with a combat element. Attacks inflicted on the opponent are done by pressing the 'A' button along with a directional button from the D-Pad or Circle Pad. It gives a little bit of flexibility into your game as certain attacks give certain effects to enemies. The main objective of the combat is to damage the opponent via a long and damaging juggle.

Timing is essential in combat as if attacks are timed properly, then all of the attacks will hit the opponent. Also, combos can be extended if the character is paired up with a Solo Unit (which can be called upon by pressing the 'L' button) and/or there is another paired unit standing adjacent to them (called upon by 'R' button).

Doing long combos rewards you with more XP, which can be used to perform supers, use skills, and defend against enemies. Also, time your attacks just before the opponent hits the ground and you can perform a critical hit with that attack, dealing not only more damage, but also giving your characters more experience after combat. This gives you the incentive to practice your combos with characters, and choosing the best pairing of Solo and Pair Units for team synergy.

Supers could also be done during combos when you have enough XP (100XP). Performing supers automatically ends the combos. Critical hits could also be done with supers, which deals even more damage, and finishing the opponent with a super gives you more experience, so it is recommended to do that too.

Another type of attack that characters can learn later in the game is called a multi-attack. It costs 100XP like supers, and could hit more than one opponent. Fighters like Jin/Xiaoyu, Akira/Pai, and Ryu/Ken have more damaging multi-attack that only hits two enemies, while others have weaker multi-attacks that hits 2-4 enemies. Also, the more enemies you kill with a multi-attack, the more experience you get.

What I like about their combat system is that the damage you deal to the opponent depends entirely on your skill, luck does not play a factor in the combat, which is something I really like when compared to Fire Emblem (where an enemy is able to land a critical hit on you despite having only a 3% chance of getting a critical hit). By finding the best pairings, you can perform some insanely damaging combos which will help you a lot.

Enemies int he map have different weight class and some have barriers that need to be broken before they can take a hit, so there is some planning into your combos depending on what opponent you're facing. Also, there are enemy boss units, which have significantly higher health and deals more damage.

One of the strategic elements in this game that I have not seen many mentioned about is XP and EP management. XP is shared with all of your units, and EP is shared between all enemy units. So, if you want a character who will begin his turn later to use a skill that has a high XP cost, then you have to make sure that the characters before is able to build up enough XP for that character to cast it later, or conserve his/her XP by not doing anything if the enemy attacks.

EP is like XP, but for enemies. Managing them is quite overlooked by many people, but by managing them well, you can make later chapters easier by a lot. One great example that I can give (from my personal experience) was my battle with the final boss.

In the final chapter, you have to defeat the final boss while facing a number of sub-boss. Said sub-boss were bosses from earlier chapters (each with their own damaging attacks). The final boss has a very damaging attack that he could perform if he has 100 EP or more. The solution is to make sure before he has less than 100 EP before his turn begins, and you do that by attacking the sub-bosses instead, provoking the sub-boss to do their own 100 EP damaging moves (which aren't as damaging as the final boss' attack), so that the final boss does not have enough EP to do his near lethal attack.

Also, there is some variation in mission chapters, and that these objectives may change when reinforcement arrives. This is another thing I like about this game when compared to FE:A since the only objectives in the game are either Rout the Enemy, or Defeat Commander. Some chapters in PxZ have mission objectives like chasing down an enemy, and reaching a certain area before the time limit, adding some difficulty to the game.

The game's combat however, can get extremely repetitive. Seeing the same attacks over an over again, as well as the same cinematic super (both yours and the enemies) can get really tiring (you can skip the cinematic super by pressing B), which is why it is not recommended to play the game for so many hours straight (maybe that's why reviews of the game aren't out so soon too). In my personal opinion, playing 1 chapter a day from chapter 10 onwards should be ideal.

Another thing to note that in some chapters, characters will be separated from each other, encouraging you to change your pairings. It's a good thing and a bad thing, since it encourages some change in tactics and experimentation, but also frustrates players as those that have practiced their team's attack synergy will be annoyed to find out that they can't use that pairing for the next chapter.

PxZ is also, to many, considered quite tough. This is mostly due to enemy reinforcement appearing all of a sudden when certain requirements in the chapter is met, and most of the time it is never mentioned where the reinforcements will appear. Not to mention, some of enemies have a lot of health, with the sub-boss having around 10 times more health than you (and the final boss having 20 times more health than you).

Also, it can get really frustrating for the players especially when they got a game over in a chapter and didn't use the quick save feature to load themselves in a previous part of the same chapter. Items in general are also very scarce in the game, and if a player did not stock up on items prior to the last few chapters, they may have an extremely hard time trying to beat the game.

A personal opinion of mine regarding the game's difficulty is that while it does appears to be difficult, the game is actually quite balanced. The odds seem like they're against you in every chapter, and yet you are able to complete the chapter. And while some characters have better skills than others, they are not game breaking either. Also, like FE, every unit is important. While the game does not have permadeath and characters can be rescued when they get KO'ed, certain characters trigger a game over in certain chapters when they are KO'ed, so do not neglect anyone.

I would also like to note that the difficulty is not that tough in some chapters. Most of the time, if the title of the chapter does not appear during the mission, this means that not all the reinforcement has arrive (it's true 80% of the time). Also, if you see a chest located in an area with no enemies, or if you notice no enemies in a specific area of the map, expect them to arrive there. So, for the most parts, reinforcement to me was pretty predictable.

Oh, before I forget, the game's replay value comes in New Game Plus. The main story took me 60 hours to complete, and may take up to 70-80 hours for some. Combine that with NG+ and you have a really lengthy game.

Music:

I do like some of the music in the game. Most of those tracks that I like came from already existing games. But what I like about PxZ is that I do not know all the characters in this game and which game series they come from because some of the character's themes like the two themes from Resonance of Fate are extremely awesome, and the theme of .hack//link is really nice. Also, X's theme from Megaman X4 in this game was much more catchier than I remembered, too bad they didn't do Zero's Megaman X's theme justice in this game. But overall, the tracks are alright.

A minor nitpick I have is that most of the slow characters have themes I didn't like to listen to. And after their turn ended and all the enemies start moving, I have to listen to their not-so-nice theme.

The Fanservice:

Yeah, I had to put a section for fanservice. In my opinion, some of the sexualised fanservice is overdone. There are some unnecessary boob jiggles (especially in Pai and XiaoYu's super), and then there's KOS-MOS and T-ELOS' super, but other than that it's alright.

For the non-sexualised fanservice, there's some really cool moments. Like how Chris made a Jill Sandwich reference, Xiaomu making a Mario Kart reference, how Batsu perfectly described Ghost and Goblins (constant, meaningless, death), and how they reference Arthur's armour being able to take a hit, and Arthur saying 'let's double jump outta here'. These kinds of fanservice is really awesome, and if you played most of the games these characters appeared in, you'll notice a lot more.

Some of my favourites are how Ryu did a Shoryuken then FADC to his Metsu Hadouken, something that Ryu can do in Street Fighter IV, how you have to defeat Vile's Ride Armour, then proceed to defeat Vile like normal like in Megaman X, one of Zero's attack being the dash-cancel slash glitch that he could perform in X4-X6, X doing the Hadouken in his multi-attack, and also Iris appearing in the game, causing Zero to say 'What am I fighting for?'. That was freaking awesome!

Overall verdict and comparison with FE:A:

Project X Zone isn't a game for everyone as the game's target audience is actually quite specific. Unlike FE:A, this isn't a game aimed at casual gamers and/or newcomers. Does it mean this game is crap or garbage like some people say it is? No, it is just not their cup of tea.

Compared to FE:A, the game is not that easy to pick up and play, nor does it have the better presentation that FE:A has. But it does have an all-star cast of characters, and some depth in their combat (that is not luck dependent). While it doesn't have the replay value that FE has, it makes up for it with a very long story mode. Sure, it's story has faults (just like the 2nd half of FE:A), but like FE:A, it makes up for it by character interaction. It also has better music in FE in my opinion, and you can customise the tracks you wanna hear while battling in NG+.

Overall, a good game, but not a game for everyone.

7.5/10

The TL:DR version of my review:
Pros:
Fanservice (this game features several popular characters of known franchises altogether, and of course plenty of eye candy)
Combat is deeper than most people think
There is some tactical elements into the game, contrary to many people's belief
 Cons:
Story is quite bad
Combat can get really repetitive
Game may be hard for some people (but then again, this IS also made by the creators of the Super Robot Wars series, which are somewhat hard)

Completed Project X Zone today.

After playing around 60 hours, I have finally completed the main story of Project X Zone, doing so unlocks New Game Plus which is harder (and I may not try that so soon), and the sound room which you can customize the tracks you wanna hear when playing New Game Plus.

So... what are my thoughts on the game?

It is quite fun, and while the fighting gets extremely repetitive, I was able to hold on till the end. I heard that the final chapter was gonna be hard, with the final boss having almost 20 times more health than you and being able to deal 70-90% damage to your health with enough mana (even when you have defense buffs placed for your units). Despite all that, I was able to complete the final mission (and even this game, as a whole), without using any of the rare healing items (like 100% HP or MP recovery, and full HP recovery for all allies items) that I've kept throughout my journey.

In short, the final boss wasn't as hard I thought it would be, and I don't consider myself to be a tactical expert (this being an SRPG) nor an execution master (since I occasionally drop combos, and don't really deal critical hits all the time). I may try New Game Plus soon, but not now since I wanna catch up on Animal Crossing.

I may make a review of the game in my next post, maybe even comparing this game to the other SRPG released earlier on the 3DS.

Project X Zone - current impressions.

I've gotten the game for 5 days, and I've been playing it a lot, in addition to playing Animal Crossing. Both are really really fun games, but now, I'm here to talk about PxZ.

It started out really fun and easy, with maps taking half an hour to complete and enemies not being all too powerful. Then around Chapter 9 (I think), which is the exact same level as the demo level, and things start to get harder.

More than one high health unit appears on the map, and there were tons of enemies too. Not to mention, killing of one of the boss units immediately ends the chapter, which is a bad thing if the other boss unit is still very much alive (since you wanna get the most experience for your units). In fact, that was exactly what I did in the next chapter, where I had to kill the boss character and leave the other one alive due to not so effective strategic planning. But after that chapter, I got used to this and everything went rather well (for now).

I've just completed Chapter 17. A lot of people said the chapter before that (16) is one of the most annoying chapters in the game at this point due to you having to chase 4 average health units before they reach the exit, with enemies attacking and blocking your way. Fortunately, there was a full proof strategy for this chapter, and by using this strategy, I was able to kill off those enemy units in 3 turns.

Overall, the game makes me feel like the odds are against me, with the opposing army double of even triple the number of units compared to yours, but it is indeed a fair fight (even though it can be hard sometimes). I was even able to delay the death of boss units so that other lower level units could finish the boss off for more experience gain.

Anyways, I've not even reached the halfway mark of the game. So, I'll get back once I've completed it.
